Sudan has been the site of extreme ethnic conflict, where militias sponsored by the dominant Arab government have used violence to drive non-Arab Africans from their homes and property, mostly in the Darfur region. Over the past two decades, the brutality has led to the death and displacement of millions.
Third party research identified
23 companies held within our portfolios with possible ties to Sudan. Citizens Advisers reached out to these firms to understand what business, if any, they have with Sudan. We chose to engage
these companies
and get their input rather than expose our shareholders to the possible negative stock price performance that might occur with rapid divestment.
To date, more than half of the companies have responded.
